Saturday Night at the races

09 March 2018
Saturday Night at the races
Saturday evening 24th February. Nearly 100 supporters and friends gathered at Carnation Hall to participate in our much-anticipated horse racing night, raise crucial funds, and generally eat, drink and be merry.  For anyone wondering how we persuaded the hall owners to allow over 60 horses into the hall…they were on video screen!

We enjoyed eight pre-recorded horse races and to add to the fun were able to bet on the result prior to the race commencing; just like the real thing. Once the race was complete a few lucky punters collected their winnings while others wished they had kept their hands firmly in their pockets. Some people had a very lucrative evening and that’s all part of the fun. Remember however even if you weren’t a winner all the funds go to a worthy cause…helping cats. For anyone who couldn’t come along, or who hasn’t enjoyed this type of event before, it’s great fun and is thoroughly recommended.

We were of course treated to the other staples of a CP evening; a tasty, extensive buffet courtesy of Janey and Angela, and a raffle with a wide variety of exciting prizes, plus of course a bring your own bar for those that wished to get into the spirit of evening or drown their sorrows! A special mention must go to Amy Vaughan who decorated the hall tables in a suitably horsey theme to help get us in the mood for the races; it looked tremendous.

Overall with the entrance tickets, the tote, raffle and the generosity of the eight businesses or individuals who each sponsored one of the races in excess of £1,450 was raised for Branch funds.

Thanks to all those who worked so hard in organising, promoting, selling, catering, logistics, hosting and finally attending this highly successful evening.
